About us

UPPID was founded in 1997  and registered as a non governmental organization in 1998 to advocate for their rights of persons with intellectual disabilities (PWIDs), work towards giving a voice and  uplift the welfare of PWIDS  by giving them a chance to enjoy their human rights enshrined in the UNCRPD and  the Constitution of Uganda. The organization advocates for full inclusion of PWID as equal citizens and participants in all aspects of life.

Parents pay a very important role in creating a positive attitude towards PWIDS through sharing experiences and information on intellectual disabilities and how people with such disability can be resourceful. PWIDS have the right to fully participate in their community and be treated with dignity and respect.

Share Objectives:

  1. To strength the capacity of UPPID  to effectively deliver on its mandate.
  2. To lobby and advocate for rights of PWIDs  based on CRPD.
  3. To promote self-advocacy of PWIDs
  4. To enhance socio-economic empowerment of PWIDs and their families.
  5. To provide a forum for exchange of information, experiences and advice for parents, member organizations and affiliates with regard to care and training of persons with intellectual disabilities

Membership is open to organization and persons whether legal or natural partnership, Non-governmental organization or other body whether corporate or not which are carrying out or involve in activities aimed at improving the life situation of people with intellectual disabilities
