I am a lawyer and have served as the High Court Judge, Adjunct Law Lecturer, Legal Consultant and Researcher, Human Rights Defender and currently United Nations Volunteer assigned to UNHCR in protection unit and Course Lead in Community and Customary Laws and Legal Justice System in NUFFIC project for preparing online manuals to serve as e-training in Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan and Somalia. I have , so far published three books pertaining to the rights of women and gender equality and several articles on the rights of children, women, refugees, human rights, humanitarian laws and constitutionalism. I am currently a PhD candidate and my thesis deal with African customary legal system. My name is Nouf Tawfiq, I am a 37 years old female. I am a law graduate. I work in UNHCR-Yemen, I have been working in protection in UNHCR Yemen for the past twelve years. There are about 4 million IDPs in Yemen, making it the fourth-biggest displacement due to the conflict crisis globally. Internally displaced corresponds to approximately 13% of the entire population of Yemen, it also hosts refugees from various nationalities.
I am the head of the Legal Unit in Protection, we work to ensure the provision of quality legal advice and guidance on protection issues to Persons of Concern, liaise and support advocacy with the competent authorities on the legal issues pertaining for both refugees and IDP issues.
