The University of Central Asia (UCA) was founded in 2000 as a private, not for profit, secular university through an International Treaty signed by the Presidents of the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan, and His Highness the Aga Khan; ratified by their respective parliaments, and registered with the United Nations. The Presidents are Patrons of the University and His Highness is the Chancellor. UCA brings with it the broader commitment and partnership of the Aga Khan Development Network.

Zaher Shah Sayedi was born in Badakhshan, Afghanistan in 1995. He received his Higher Education Degree from the Weyar Boys High School, Shughnan, Badakhshan, in 2014. Currently, he is studying Economics at the University of Central Asia in Khorugh, Tajikistan.
In 2011, he joined the Aga Khan National Council in Kabul, Afghanistan as a volunteer teacher, where he taught secondary school subjects for more than two years. At the same time, he studied English at the Aga Khan Education Center in Kabul, Afghanistan before going on to complete his English studies there in 2013. Since April 2015, he has worked as a volunteer coordinator for Afghanistan (North Zone) at the Youth Committee of the Aga Khan National Council in Kabul, Afghanistan. He served as a online volunteer with The United in 2018. After passing the state exam, he was admitted into the Mining Engineer Faculty of Kabul Polytechnic University. After one year, he was awarded a scholarship by the Government of Tajikistan to continue his education at the Technological University of Tajikistan in Dushanbe, where he studied for one year. Finally, in September 2017, he commenced his studies at the University of Central Asia in Khorugh, Tajikistan.
