Established in 1892, we have been at the forefront of legal education and our academic research is respected internationally for its precision and significance. We are committed to contributing, through the excellence of our research and policy work, to critical exploration of the role of law in promoting (or inhibiting) social justice.

After a 20-year career as a practising lawyer in domestic and international criminal law, I now teach and research international human rights, transitional justice and international criminal law at the University of Liverpool in the UK.

My main geographical focus in my work is on South East Asia, and I am currently researching the role of lawyers in transitional / rule of law weak states, particularly Myanmar and Cambodia - two places I have lived and worked in over the last decade.

My research looks at the intersection between cause lawyering, legal empowerment and social legitimacy and the way in which lawyers mobilise for social justice.

I am looking to connect with others who work in the region on these issues with a view to enriching my research and sharing theories, in order to better understand and promote law as a tool of social justice.

I look forward to hearing from you.
