Wangu Kanja Foundation (WKF) is a nonprofit organization that provides survivors of sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) with access to medical, psychological, psycho – social, and legal redress. WFK was founded by the Ms. Wangu Kanja in 2005. The foundation is a registered Trustee under the Perpetual Succession Act Chapter 164 of the Laws of Kenya. Ms. Kanja survived a harrowing rape and a carjacking incident in 2002 and has since dedicated her life to promoting prevention, protection and response in ending SGBV. Survivors of SGBV face many challenges including trauma, stigma, discrimination, lack of justice and access to comprehensive care and support (medical, psychological and legal redress). The organization draws from Ms. Kanja’s experience to get the society and survivors to speak openly about sex, sexuality and sexual violence. Many people don’t understand the impact of sexual and gender based violence. A recent study has established that the economic cost of burden on survivors and their families is in the tunes of Ksh.46 billion annually money that can be used to improve the economy of the country.

Vision: A society that is safe and free from all forms of violence

Mission: To be a center of excellence in prevention, protection and response in addressing sexual and gender based violence
