I am the executive director and co-founder of WE ACT For Environmental Justice based in Harlem in New York City. I co-founded the organization 34 years ago and our theory of change is to build healthy communities by organizing and engaging the most affected people in environmental decision making to improve environmental protection and environmental public health. I have a background in journalism, I have run for public office, and I focus on movement building. I am engaged with other allies in hosting the first Climate Justice Pavilion in the Blue Zone at COP27. I hope to join the network because WE ACT and our allies expect to create a space for frontline communities and Indigenous peoples from the United States and the Global South to tell their stories, and express and share their perspectives. I hope to interact and develop relationships with a diverse group of frontline advocates globally.
Peggy Shepard is the network champion (main point of contact) for West Harlem Environmental Action aka WE ACT For Environmental Justice.
