Women’s Action for Community Development (WACD) is a registered community based organisation by Bukedea District Local Government under registration number 2431.

The group was founded in the year 2009 by 5 women for the promotion of community development in the area. It was seen that women are economically poor and suffer all sorts of exploitation.

The group has a current membership of 35 women farmer groups ranging from 22-42 years. Each group with members of 10-15 women members.
The group started with an aim of promoting women’s rights and participation on the community development.

Women’s Action for Community Development (WACD) is a local grass root community Based Organization (CBO) engaged in programmes or activities intended to empower women to realize social economic and cultural development.

Women’s Action for Community Development (WACD) is located at the following physical address:-
Malera village, Malera Sub County, Bukedea, Uganda

WACD’s philosophy
WACD’s focus is to create development in the broadest sense especially through the establishment and implementation of projects that aim at transferring knowledge, skills and capacity to individuals and communities that need assistance to come out of poverty and dehumanized conditions. WACD works with the people as partners in finding solutions and in creating the necessary conditions to improve their living standards and to achieve their aspiration for a just and humanized life for themselves, their families and their communities.

Goal
To unite and involve the rural women in activities that will uplift their standards of living and creating a community free of violence and especially domestic violence among women for sustainable development

Mission
To empower the rural women in Bukedea district through education and engaging them in income generating projects for poverty alleviation in their homestead and uplifting their standards of living for a healthy women communities.
WACD Program Activities lie under the following: Agriculture, Economic Empowerment, Education, Health, Environmental Conservation, Human rights protection.
