The purpose of YHRI is to teach youth about human rights, specifically the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and inspire them to become advocates for tolerance and peace.

Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2001 by Dr. Mary Shuttleworth, an educator born and raised in apartheid South Africa, where she witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of discrimination and the lack of basic human rights.

In Nigeria, Yhri has established in most of the states across the country including Ondo state. Here we come to extend the YHRI network with this organization for a better development. Our mission: To teach youth about human rights, especially the Universal Declaration of Human Rights thus helping them to become valuable advocates for the promotion of tolerance and peace. YHRI is working for the promotion of human rights and survival in Nigeria. We provide human rights educational materials for the classroom and outside of traditional educational settings. Along the way, YHRI representatives will be meeting senior government officials, visited local towns and villages to distribute to both parents and children copies of What Are Human Rights? Booklets, and Human Rights educational fliers. At each stop, they can ask the children what they understood about human rights.
