Call for Submissions: Asian Journal of Legal Education

The Legal Aid Society of the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) is happy to announce the inception of the “Asian Journal of Legal Education (AJLE)”.

The primary objective of the Society is to promote free legal aid and deliver legal services to the indigent people. In last few years, the Society has massively increased its activities and outreach. Today, it is recognized as an important institution for legal empowerment and research on issues involving legal aid, access to justice, and legal education in India. As a part its continuing extension, the Society has now undertaken an initiative to publish a Journal on legal education bi-annually. The Journal aspires to promote greater interest among legal academia and professionals to undertake serious academic research on issues involving pedagogy of law, social justice, and concerns for legal education in the globalised era in the Asian region. This Journal also aims to serve as a forum for legal educators and professionals who are engaged in experiments to make legal education and profession of law more meaningful and social justice oriented.

The title of the Journal has been finalized in consultation with various experts in the field of legal education as “Asian Journal of Legal Education (AJLE)”. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of NUJS Prof. (Dr.) P. Ishwara Bhat has approved the publication of this Journal and consented to be the Patron-in-Chief.

Renowned legal academicians and scholars from India, United States of America, United Kingdom, Israel, South Africa, Bangladesh, China, Thailand and Singapore have consented to be associated with the Journal as Advisors and Editors.Submission Policy

The Asian Journal of Legal Education accepts submissions throughout the year. Articles, Notes, Essay, Book Review and Comments for publication in AJLE may be submitted at anytime. But for each issue, only those articles and notes and comments submitted on or before the last date of submission prescribed for that issue would be considered. Submissions made after the last date of submission will be considered for subsequent issues. The schedule for considering the submissions for publication is as follows:

Authors are requested to write on any of the following topics:

-Innovations in Pedagogy of Legal Education
-Clinical Legal Education
-Legal Research Methodology
-Legal Education and Globalization
-Legal Education and Access to Justice
-Legal Education as Tool to Enhance Governance Reforms
-Legal Education and Social Change
-Legal Education and Law Reform
-Legal Education and Alternative Dispute Resolution
-Legal Education, Poverty and Development

1. Submission of Manuscripts

Manuscripts must be in English and should be sent by email to: ajle@nujs.edu. The preferred maximum length for Article is 6000- 8000 words, Essay 4000-5000 words and Book Review/ Note / Comment 2000-3000 words.

2. Preparation of Manuscripts

-Your manuscript should be in Word format, double-spaced in Times New Roman, font size 12 and justified. The prescribed word limits are inclusive of footnotes and contributors are expected to strictly conform to them. British pronunciation style should be used.
-Provide a Title Page, containing the manuscript title, names and affiliations of all contributing authors, and contact details for the Corresponding Author.
-Include an abstract of approximately 200-300 words.
-Provide a cover letter (word/PDF format) to accompany your manuscript submission. Your covering letter should include the following statements:

a. I confirm that the citations in the attached manuscript are accurate.

b. I confirm that I have read the submission policy and that my manuscript complies with the journal’s submission policy.

c. I confirm that the manuscript has been submitted solely to this journal.

-Pages must be numbered.
– Two levels of subheadings are used: the first in bold and the second in italic. Subheadings are not numbered or lettered.
-Quotations longer than two lines are indented. Where quotation marks are required, these should be single not double.
-For the purposes of double-blind review, we request that you suitably anonymize your manuscript and remove any self-identifying information.
-All footnotes must be in Times New Roman, size 10, single-spacing and justified. The Rules of Citation are generally derived from The Bluebook, A Uniform System of Citation (19th Ed.).
-Once you have ensured that you have met all of the above requirements, please submit your manuscripts by email to ajle@nujs.edu for the attention of the Editor-in-Chief.
