Racial Equity 2030 Finalists

We’re excited to be among the ten visionary finalists for the Kellogg Foundation’s $90 million Racial Equity 2030 Challenge, an open call for bold solutions to drive an equitable future for children, families, and communities across the globe.

The dynamic and multi-layered solutions proposed by our co-finalists will challenge and change norms, address root causes of racialized outcomes, and create sustained conditions in which children, families, and communities can thrive. Namati will contribute to this crucial fight by equipping the communities directly facing environmental harm with the power of law.

Among the many ways racism shapes our world, one of the most devastating is the uneven distribution of environmental harm. The effects of pollution, deforestation, and displacement are concentrated in communities facing systemic discrimination, including Black and Indigenous people and people from subjugated castes.

We have a bold plan to fight environmental racism. In Kenya, Sierra Leone, India, and the US, we will support 8,000 frontline community leaders to use existing environmental laws to protect their livelihoods and well-being. Drawing on that grassroots experience, we will pursue systemic changes that lead to more equitable environmental governance in these countries; accelerate the impact of environmental justice efforts in additional countries; and achieve new global norms of environmental governance.
