Maruti has worked with the Centre for Policy Research – Namati Environment Justice Program since 2013. He was a clam collector and farmer himself before joining Namati.

He works with clam collectors and farmers from the Aghanashini Tadadi region to help secure their livelihoods, which depend on on activities associated with the Aghanashini river. His work involves helping the clam collectors association organize into a cooperative structure. Maruti has also worked with fishermen and farmers to understand the impact of proposed development projects in Uttara Kannada, and has assisted affected communities to participate in Environmental Impact Assessment processes. Additionally, he has worked with farmers from various villages to find remedies for issue related to dust pollution, salt water intrusion, and water pollution.
