Vidya Viswanathan

Director, Environmental Justice Program, New Delhi, India

Vidya is originally from Kerela (God’s Own Country). Before joining Namati, most recently she worked with the Tata Institute for Social Sciences in Mumbai where she coordinated their project, “Certification Course on Social Accountability and Social Audit”- a pan-India project in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development, GOI for developing a standardized social audit practice under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) across the 28 states.

Previously Vidya worked with Moody’s Analytics as a Financial Researcher and in a start-up firm as a Strategy Consultant helping South American business to streamline their business and improve profit margins. After completing her studies in Social Work, she joined the World Wildlife Fund as a Community Practitioner, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India (GOI), in their flagship program ‘National Career Service’.

Vidya completed her studies in Economics Honors from Delhi University and holds an M.A. in Social Work, with a specialization in Community Organization and Development Practice from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, listening to music, watching and acting in theatre, swimming, and travelling (especially trekking).

Namati’s Environmental Justice Program, India, works in collaboration with the Centre for Policy Research.
