Police Sensitisation Training Manual

This manual was initiated on 15 August 2012 when the Deputy Minister of Police attended a meeting with the Sex Workers Education and Advocacy Taskforce (SWEAT) to discuss sex workers’ complaints about police harassment and the ill treatment of transgender people in detention. The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner was instructed to address these issues, to implement procedures to curb the harassment and ill treatment of sex workers and transgender people who are the subjects of law enforcement officers’ actions, and to ensure their safety during detention.

The Women’s Legal Centre’s hope is that this guide will serve as a resource and guide to all those serving to uphold and enforce the rights of sex workers, LGBTI people, and the community at large in South Africa.
