SHIRIN LIRA, Capacity Building and Research Specialist

Shirin Lira is an experienced legal professional with over 10 years of working experience in the development field. Prior to her work with CLS, she worked in several national and international policy advocacy and right based organizations and undertaken several research consultancies that includes Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD), International Chittagong Hill Tracts Commission, OXFAM Bangladesh, Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trusts (BLAST), Nagorik Uddyog (NU), Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association (BNWLA), Human Rights Watch, Ben Hoare Bell LLP in the UK. She also worked as a part time faculty member at School of Law, BRAC University. She was awarded for British Chevening Scholarship in Human Rights and Rule of Law field and completed her Specialized LL. M in Human Rights, Conflict and Justice from School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London (2010). Her areas of specialization are indigenous and ethnic minorities’ rights, women human rights and international protection for human rights, Islamic law and human rights, Intellectual property rights and development. She is co-editor of ‘Compendium on National and International Laws and Indigenous Peoples in Bangladesh’, Oxfam GB, Dhaka, 2010 and author of several research papers on indigenous and women rights and access to justice.
