Albinism Royal Foundation (ARF) is a grassroots organization focusing on the rights of persons with albinism in Sierra Leone. It is led by Sarah N’gaiwa, a woman with albinism. ARF has been addressing the needs and advocating for the rights of persons with albinism in the country since 2018. ARF works with stakeholders such as persons with albinism, community members and leaders, other grassroots organizations, and national and local level government officials. Since 2021, ARF has been engaged in a project funded by Global Affairs Canada (Fund for Innovation and Transformation, University of the Fraser Valley) to strengthen the capacities of persons with albinism in income-generating activities, and to help to amplify their voices amongst stakeholders. ARF also plays a key role in bringing awareness on the health conditions of albinism, dispelling myths, promoting gender equality, and tackling stigmas held in communities and by stakeholders. ARF also advocates for better enforcement of laws, and a change in laws and policies to better protect the rights of persons with albinism.
