The Equal Rights Trust exists to eliminate all forms of discrimination and ensure everyone can participate in society on an equal basis. We work in partnership with equality defenders – civil society organsations and lawyers using the law to create an equal world. We provide technical, strategic and practical support to their efforts to secure the adoption and implementation of equality laws. We have three Goals:

(1) Greater understanding of equality law and its centrality to rights and development – we will work to develop international best practice on equality law and to disseminate it, and to investigate the role of equality law in addressing other rights and development challenges

(2) Increased expertise and capacity among equality defenders – we will provide technical, strategic and practical support to those working to combat discrimination through legislative and policy advocacy and litigation and provision of legal services

(3) A growing international network of equality defenders – we will continue our work to establish coalitions of organisations working to combat discrimination at the national level, and create a new global network to enable our national partners to share information and ideas, exchange good practice and collaborate on advocacy, litigation and movement building.
