The Institute for the Defense of the Right to Defense is a civil society organization of public interest, founded in July 2000, which works to strengthen the Right of Defense. IDDD’s mission is to foster in society and state institutions the idea that everyone has the right to a quality defense, to the observance of the principle of the presumption of innocence, to full access to justice, to a fair trial and to serving time in a dignified way. All of this regardless of social class, whether you are guilty or innocent, or the crime for which you are being accused. What we seek is to create a spirit of greater tolerance in society.

In two decades of existence, IDDD has seen its work recognized in some opportunities: a Special Mention and two Honorable Mentions in the Betinho de Cidadania Award, promoted by the São Paulo City Council, in 2001, 2005 and 2006, respectively; Motion of applause and congratulation received from the National Council for Criminal and Penitentiary Policy (MJ), for the cultural contest “The Right to Look”; Awarded project in the Petrobrás Cultural Program in “Education for the Arts: Materials and Documentation”, in 2006/2007 and Honorable Mention in the Special Award category of the 2010 Innovare Award. In 2014, the Institute received a plaque from the Paraná section of the Bar Association do Brasil (OAB / PR) and a National Medal of Access to Justice, from the Ministry of Justice, received at the event commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Judiciary Reform.
