Mid-Western Region Centre for Democracy and Human Rights – MICOD is a national NGO registered with the Uganda National NGO Board (Currently known as National Bureau for NGO as per the NGO Act Amendment 2016). It currently operates in the 8 districts of Masindi, Buliisa, Kiryandongo, Hoima, Kibaale, Kikuube, Kakumiro and Kagadi in the Midwestern Region of Uganda. The organization started in 2008 as a civil society platform aimed at positioning citizens’ at the centre of advocating for human and democratic rights including environmental rights. It has been involved in human rights awareness, civic education, voter education, sustainable livelihood, women and youth empowerment, Democracy village land engagement initiative, environmental conservation and advocacy around natural resources as well as oil and gas governance, MICOD works through partnership and strengthening synergies.

MICOD ensures that services reach the intended population particularly the poor (children, women, youth and other vulnerable) who have less access and less influence to demand for provision of services. Resources are never shared equally among these categories of people. That’s why MICOD focuses at building up community confidence in addressing issues/ challenges that are affecting them.

It’s a member to Uganda National NGO Forum, Bunyoro Land Platform, Bunyoro Petroleum Network on Environmental Conservation (BAPENECO), Bunyoro Coalition on Sustainable Livelihood (BUKOSA), Uganda Governance Monitoring Platform (UGMP) and a member to Civil Society Coalition on Oil and gas (CSCO) which form a strong partnership across the region.
