Rights Aid for Women

Douala, Cameroon
Joined July 2018

Bridging the gap between women and justice, we provide pro bono legal services to women who lack the means of enforcing their rights in court.

Presence in: Cameroon
Focus: Women's Rights

Rights Aids for Women, uses existing legal mechanisms in Cameroon to facilitate access to justice for women. The overall aim is to assist women without means to be granted legal aid.

We conduct a means and a merit test. The means test aims to ensure that, the available income and disposal assets are insufficient to afford a Lawyer while the merit test ensures that there are reasonable grounds to be granted legal aid.

Where the means and the merits test are successful, we proceed in compiling the necessary documents needed to be granted legal aid and to file the application for legal aid.

Interests: Women's Rights
Epanty is a Barrister/Solicitor of the Cameroon Bar Association. He is the founder of the organization “Rights Aid for Women” and also a Chair of the Governance and Accountability Council of the Global Shapers Community.

Epanty has accumulated 6 years of legal practice (general practice) during which he noticed that, men have access/seek justice more than women do. This is partly due to the patriarchy nature of the society and also because women are not economically and financially empowered.

Rights Aids for Women, was born to respond to this deficiency using the existing legal mechanisms to bridge this gap between women and justice system.

By working with other organizations in the same sector, we seek to learn more and scale impact
Epanty Mbanda is the network champion (main point of contact) for Rights Aid for Women.
