My responsibilities at SIRP are quite enormous. It includes but are not limited to the following:
• To ensure gender mainstreaming in all our activities
• To design and manage all gender related projects
• To train and monitor paralegals
• To offer legal aid services
• To draft out proposals, reports etc
• To cultivate and maintain good and friendly relationships between SIRP and partners.
This network will play a very big role in not just helping us to improve on our leaderships skills in the area of legal empowerment. But it will also serves as a platform, where I get to also connect with other individuals and organizations working in the area of legal empowerment. I strongly believe in building strong partnerships and coalitions. A popular adage says “If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together”. This is the power inherent in building strong partnerships.
Somtochukwu Ugwu is the network champion (main point of contact) for Society for the Improvement of Rural People (SIRP).
