The Rainforest Foundation UK (www.rainforestfoundationuk.org) works to support indigenous peoples and traditional populations of the world’s rainforest in their efforts to protect their environment and fulfill their lights to land, life and livelihood by assisting them in:

– Securing and controlling the natural resources necessary for their long term well being and managing these resources in ways which do not harm their environment, violate their culture or compromise their future;

– Developing means to protect their individual and collective rights and obtain, shape and control basic services from the state.

We believe that the best way to protect the rainforest is through empowering the indigenous peoples’ to defend their ancestral lands.
We promote the establishment of community rights over rainforest lands and tackle the root of the problem related to deforestation and paving the way for local people to benefit fairly from the use and protection of forest resources.

Our goal is to help indigenous peoples and forest communities around the world gain the land and resource rights they deserve, and in the process reduce deforestation activities such as illegal logging and palm oil production.

We help by offering legal support, and working with local partners on projects such as Mapping for Rights (www.mappingforrights.org), Community Legal Fieldworkers and Sustainable livelihoods.
