Who we are

Right to Protection is a Ukrainian not-for profit organization operating in close partnership with the global NGO HIAS, one of the world’s oldest refugee aid organizations. Like HIAS, Right to Protection is dedicated to protecting refugees who find themselves in Ukraine due to dire circumstances. Additionally, Right to Protection ensures the protection and human rights of other vulnerable migrants – the internally displaced, the stateless and those at risk of statelessness and the undocumented.

Our vision

Right to Protection in partnership with HIAS stands for democratic development of Ukraine. We trust that the rule of law, respect for human rights, human mobility, diversity and tolerance are the fundamental pillars of development. True democracy in its turn is only possible when the majority protects minorities, including migrants who have been forced to leave their homes and seek shelter and protection in a new land. This is why we seek to ensure that the human rights of those minorities who are particularly vulnerable to exclusion, discrimination and dehumanization, e.g. the war affected civilians, the internally displaced, refugees, the stateless, the undocumented and aliens are fully respected and protected in Ukraine.

Our mission

Premised upon the values and principles that have guided HIAS‘s work for over a century and applying the lessons learnt to Ukraine’s unique post-Soviet migration related challenges, Right to Protection, in partnership with HIAS, takes a holistic approach to aiding the internally displaced, persons in need of international protection, stateless and those at risk of statelessness by providing direct legal assistance to individuals and advocating for all-encompassing changes to legal and institutional frameworks based on equality, dignity, compassion and in accordance with international human rights standards.
