Civil society groups in India and Ethiopia organize to challenge land grabbing

Land grabbing in Ethiopia by Indian corporations has resulted in forced relocation of over 1.5 million indigenous people from their lands.  A recent Indian-Ethiopian summit, which brought together civil society groups from both countries working to bring attention to the issue, marked “a turning point in the struggle for land rights and livelihoods in the two countries.”  According to Anuradha Mittal of the Oakland Institute, “the agony of communities who face human rights abuses as their lands are taken over” is now reaching the investors’ and governments’ doorsteps.
