Decentralised Governance for Development: A Combined Practice Note

Decentralized governance for development (DGD) is a key area of democratic governance which is crucial to attaining human development. This United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) practice note synthesizes UNDP’s thinking on decentralization, local governance and urban/rural development. It highlights key lessons learned; provides guidance in operationalising initiatives in this area; and presents key partners and actors in the field.  The note also provides guidance to country offices on how to operationalize a holistic approach to the design, implementation and monitoring of DGD initiatives.
