Antigua Declaration Affirms International Commitment to Land Rights for Vulnerable Populations

The International Land Coalition convened its annual Global Land Forum in Antigua, Guatemala to address territorial governance and food security, particularly within the context of rapid urbanization and changing patterns of land use throughout the developing world. Community Land Protection Director Rachael Knight represented Namati at the forum.  The meeting culminated in the approval of the Antigua Declaration, a statement which calls for a recognition of the role land plays within communities, such as its cultural, spiritual, and ecological functions, and outlines a “strong international commitment to land rights for indigenous peoples, human rights defenders and women.”
