Ivory Coast to ratify statelessness treaty

The Ivory Coast will ratify the 1954 Convention on the Status of Stateless Persons and the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness, the UNHCR reports. The new treaty will be passed along with domestic laws that ease restrictions for obtaining Ivorian citizenship, thus making access to basic services like education and healthcare possible for almost 400,000 children and about 300,000 other refugees from West Africa.
