New Book: ‘The Great African Land Grab?’

Lorenzo Cotula’s new book, “The Great African Land Grab? Agricultural Investments and the Global Food System”, examines the implications of large-scale land acquisitions in Africa. Such acquisitions, often described as ‘land grabs’, are are highly controversial.  While many criticize their negative social impacts, others argue that the trend creates new livelihood opportunities. Cotula endeavors an objective approach to the debate.  His book documents the history of ‘land grabs’ in Africa, assesses the current situation, and analyzes the impact of large-scale land acquisitions on world agriculture, food security, and the lives of ordinary people on the continent.
