Nancy D. Sesay

Nancy D. Sesay is a legal practitioner. She worked extensively with non-governmental organisations in Sierra Leone (including Legal Access for Women Yearning for Equality Rights and Social Justice-LAWYERS), promoting the rights of marginalized and vulnerable groups; particularly, women and children, in the areas of family law, human rights, juvenile justice, etc. During her work as deputy director with Timap for Justice, a local NGO; Nancy was part of the team that pioneered the use of paralegals as frontline access to justice providers resulting into the enactment of the Legal Aid Act of 2012 and setting up of the Sierra Leone Legal Aid Board. At the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), Nancy worked on issues of equality, justice reform, rule of law, human rights and lead the legal empowerment initiative of Open Society Foundations within OSIWA. Part of her work included grant-making, project management and advocacy.
